Adopt A Building

Maybole Town Hall

The Building

We have adopted Maybole Town Hall. Maybole is a small town. It has three schools. One academy, four churches, one library, one big supermarket, two garages. It is nine miles from Ayr. It has a big park. The Town Hall in Maybole was originally built in 1887. It is in the centre of Maybole. It has accommodation for seven hundred and fifty people. It's used for all kinds of sports and activities and it has a court room and other rooms. [Robert]

When we first heard that we had been chosen as South Ayrshire's school in the 'Adopt a Historic Building Project' we were absolutely amazed. We chose Maybole Town Hall because this building is a landmark in our town, it's used by everybody including ourselves, it has lots of history and we would like eo find out more about the town hall. The School

Our school, St Cuthbert's Primary, is situated in the town of Maybole in the south-west of Scotland. Maybole is a small town about ten miles south of Ayr on the A77 bypass from Glasgow to Stranraer. Maybole is the ancient capital of the area known as Kyle and Carrick. [Patrick McCallum]

St Cuthberts school building is sixty-five years old. Previously the school was in the building which is now used at the church hall of Our Lady and St Cuthberts Parish. Presently there are fifty-one children in our school and ten adults work there including three teachers and a head teacher. Our class is made-up of ten primarty five children (three boys and seven girls), two primary six pupils (one boy and one girl) and five primary seven children (three boys and two girls).
